- Examination of the teeth, gums, tongue, and soft tissues.
- Use of a small mirror and dental instruments to inspect hard-to-see areas.
X-rays (if needed)
- Taken to detect hidden cavities, bone loss, or impacted teeth.
- Common types include bitewing, periapical, or panoramic X-rays.
Gum Health Evaluation
- Measurement of gum pockets to check for signs of periodontal disease.
- Checking for gum recession, inflammation, or bleeding.
Bite and Jaw Examination
- Assessment of how teeth fit together (occlusion).
- Checking for signs of teeth grinding (bruxism) or TMJ (temporomandibular joint) issues.
Oral Cancer Screening

Treatment Plan Discussion
- If any issues are found, the dentist will discuss treatment options.
- Recommendations for fillings, cleanings, orthodontic work, or other procedures.
Professional Cleaning (If Scheduled)
- Removal of plaque and tartar buildup.
- Polishing teeth for a smooth and clean finish.
